At least two others were injured in the accident on Thursday, according to a tweet from the 1st Marine Expeditionary Force.
Search and rescue efforts continued Friday morning with the support of the Navy and the Coast Guard.
All members of the service in the incident were assigned to the 15th Marine Expeditionary Division, based outside Pendleton Camp.
“We are deeply saddened by this tragic incident,” said Colonel Christopher Bronze, commander of the 15th Council of Ministers. “Please keep our Marines, sailors and their families in their prayers as we continue our search.”
