Frederick Police Chief Jason Lando said authorities received a call around 8:20 a.m., reporting a situation of an “active shooter”
Shortly afterwards, Lando said, authorities received information that the suspect was traveling to Fort Detrick, about a 10-minute drive away, where the suspect was shot dead. A life-saving action has been taken on the suspect, but it has failed, Lando said.
Lando said there was only one shooter and no public threat.
“We have two different scenes. “All I can tell you is that we have confirmed that there is only one shooter,” Lando said. – Society is no longer at risk. Everyone is safe. “
In a statement, the Navy said: “The US Navy can confirm that there was an active shooter incident at Fort Detrick, MD, involving US Navy sailors. The shooter, a naval hospital corps, has died. We will continue to update in further detail as the situation develops. “
The two victims from the office park were taken to Baltimore shock injury. They are in critical condition, authorities said. No one else was hurt.
Jeremy Mutchler, marketing director for the Nicolock Paving Stones, said he understood the shooting was close to the company’s location in Frederick, but not in the business itself.
“One of the victims, who was injured, entered our facility seeking help, and we were able to cooperate and call the authorities,” said Mutschler, who is based in New York.
Several roads in the area of the shooting were closed.
Several public schools in Frederick County were “briefly blocked”, the area tweeted. “All students and staff are safe. The block has been lifted, “FCPS officials said.
Frederick Community College sent a lock warning and then issued a clear one. “There is no danger on the FCC campus,” the school tweeted.
According to them, the authorities expect to provide a new update on Tuesday afternoon.
