29 new deaths, 500 new positive cases – deadline

On Saturday, the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health released new data on Covid-19, reporting 29 new deaths and 500 new positives.

While the Department’s data show that hospitalizations continue to decline, reported cases and deaths may reflect delays in reporting over the weekend.

Public health data led to a total of 1,233,488 confirmed cases and 23,918 deaths in Los Angeles County. At the time of the report, 414 county residents were hospitalized with Covid-19, 21% of whom were in the intensive care unit.

Test results have already been made available to more than 6,502,000 people, 18% of whom are positive. Today’s positive daily test rate is 0.6%, remaining at the lowest level seen throughout the pandemic.

Eleven of today’s new deaths are in people over the age of 80, and eight people between the ages of 65 and 79 have succumbed to the virus. Five people who died were between the ages of 50 and 64, and three died between the ages of 30 and 49. Two of the reported deaths were from the city of Pasadena.

Los Angeles County is expected to enter the yellow (or at least restrictive) level of the California Safer Economy Project soon. This move will allow capacity increase in many sectors, including cinemas, concert venues and theme parks, given that safety modifications such as camouflage are maintained, in line with CDC guidelines.

Covid-19 vaccinations are available without reservation for all people aged 16 and over who either live or work in Los Angeles – while supplies are exhausted.

At present, one long-term priority for public health is the provision of vaccinations for those experiencing homelessness. To date, 7,103 cases of Covid-19 have been identified in this population, and 206 have died. As with the general population, cases continue to decline. But in any case, there are currently 122 providers who administer homeless vaccines throughout the city.
