Three people were killed and five were shot while graduating in Kendall, Florida, early Sunday, according to the Miami-Dade Police Department.
A prom ended at a local mall when two cars, a dark-colored Chevy Malibu and a white Toyota Camry, pulled into the parking lot and started firing on the crowd, Miami-Dade Police Director Freddie Ramirez said.
Three people were killed in the shooting, two in a vehicle that crashed into Kendall College in Miami-Dade County, and one woman who was a correctional officer in Florida, Ramirez said.
“We offer our condolences to her and her family, as well as to the victims here on the ground … this simply shows that the scale of this problem of gun violence affects not only members of the community, it affects the law enforcement community, we all need to to unite, “Ramirez said.
According to Ramirez, five of those shot were in stable condition. The victims were transported to local hospitals.
The dead and living victims were not identified immediately.
The strip mall where the shooting took place contains two businesses, a hookah salon and a restaurant, NBC Miami reported.
The shooting comes a week after a mass shooting in the Miami area killed three people and wounded 20.
