Bombay Supreme Court says BMC’s behavior is “malafid” and “deplorable”

Mumbai:
Actor Kangana Ranaut won a major victory against the civilian body of Mumbai BMC today after the Bombay Supreme Court left the demolition in his office. The civic body, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation or BMC, listed 1

4 “violations” in its office, which included a toilet, apparently built in a space designated for a kitchen, and an office set up in an area designated for a toilet. The court said BMC’s behavior was “malafid” and “deplorable”. Ms Ranaut, who returned to Mumbai today from Manali months later, is in the middle of a huge dispute with Shiv Sena over her comments “Mumbai feels like PoK” and claims to be the target of the Maharashtra government over its fight with Sena which also controls BMC.

Here are 5 big quotes from today’s sentence in favor of Kangana Ranaut:

  1. Suddenly, the corporation appears to have woken up overnight from its sleep, issued a notice to the petitioner that and when she was out of state, directing her to respond within 24 hours and giving her no more time, despite the written request and continuation of the demolition of the premises after the completion of 24 hours.

  2. The way BMC proceeded to work to destroy prima facie does not appear to be well-intentioned and to affect malafid.

  3. We cannot fail to mention here that if BMC had acted with such speed as the numerous unauthorized constructions in this city, the city would have been a very different place to live.

  4. The civilian body was trying to waste court time and meanwhile complete the demolition.

  5. We find BMC’s conduct very deplorable, all the more so as BMC was well aware that the petitioner would be brought before this court at any time and the application for urgent orders would be moved.
