5 suspected cases of COVID-19 at the same EMS station in Astoria, Queens



ASTORIA, Queens (WABC) – FDNY says there are five suspected cases of COVID-19 at the same EMS station in Queens.

All five members of the department are on medical leave from EMS 49, 25-3 Hoyt Avenue.

Last week, the NYPD announced that there were 36 suspected cases in the first week of October.

Medical leave for FDNY and EMS is still below 3%.

The FDNY says the department is closely monitoring the situation and is currently tracking and testing contacts.

They said that the following efforts were being made to keep COVID in the ranks of the department:

-PPE / disinfectant / training is provided to all FDNY members.
-All FDNY seats and appliances are cleaned regularly.
-Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Department has conducted extensive training and communications for all members on the response and mitigation of COVID.
-Department continues to produce messages that remind all members of the critical importance of facial coverage.

Since March, more than 5,000 FDNY members have been diagnosed with COVID.
