The Orange County Health Agency reported 85 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday (October 17th), increasing the cumulative amount to 56,672 cases.
In the last 30 days, the county has had about 5,273 cases.
Eight new coronavirus deaths were reported on Saturday, with a total of 68 deaths in the last four updates, but county health officials said that did not mean that all eight deaths had occurred in the past few days.
Data on deaths in the county are collected from death certificates or collected during the investigation of the case and can take weeks to process, officials say. The most recent deaths were on Oct. 12, but some reported dating back to June, Dr. Clayton Chow told the district health official at a news conference.
