The Grizzlies have already canceled their professional taxi-eating championship scheduled for Saturday.
The rest of this weekend's Taco Truck Throwdown events will continue as planned.
Dana Andrew Hutchings loved sports and entertainment, so the mid-game Fresno Grizzlies food race seems like the perfect combination for
These fees will be his last meal.
"He obviously started to choke so that Fresno Grizzlies' medical staff rushed in, started giving him first aid and then delivered him to the American ambulance," said Tony Botty at the Fresno County Sheriff's Office and Coroner.
The paramedics tried to clear Hackings' airway food, but he died less than 30 minutes later.
He made a strong impression before his death, sharing his strategy with fellow fans in the game.
"He said he would participate in a taco eating contest and did not eat all day to become a winner," says Eric Schmidt.
He says that Hutings also mentioned that he was diabetic and had a few beers, so he offered the man some food, but Hutchings was saving for competition.
And when the contest appeared on Jumbotron, the strategy seemed to be working at first.
"He wins," Schmidt said. "I mean, he was hungry, you can tell. My son and I stood there like "oh, here's the man." And he won because he was starving. "
But he stopped eating.
Schmidt saw him trying to chew a little more, and then the big screen on the screen went dark.
He saw paramedics working on Hutchings in a hurry and we realized later that they can't save him.
The victim's medical history and whether he is diabetic will be part of the county coroner's investigation.
"Everybody says he is suffocated by food, so we have that as a starting point," Boti said . Thursday's autopsy may determine the cause of his death, but toxicology reports may take a month or more.
The Hutchings family remembers a 41
"My brother Andrew was a funny guy," Mecca Hutings told Action News. "He had a great sense of humor and liked to make people laugh. He was an avid supporter of Fresno State."
