A 55-year-old man was killed on Sunday in a shark attack in a popular tourist destination in Western Australia, officials said.
The attack happened around 8:40 a.m. when the victim was bodyboarding about 100 feet from Cable Beach near Broome, a holiday destination on the Australian coast of the Indian Ocean, police said.
“It’s a tragic incident, a very unexpected one, a man who goes out to have some fun in the water,” Kimberly County Police Inspector Jean Pierce told reporters.
Krushi said a couple on the beach saw her crash into the water and rushed to pull the man to safety.
The man suffered serious injuries to his leg and arm and was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
His deaths have resulted in eight deaths from shark attacks in the country this year to eight, the highest since 1
