Just days after Disneyland reopened with an update to its Snow White attraction, the move has already received a backlash.
DISNEYLAND RECOVERS AFTER 13 MONTHS CLOSURE
According to Disney, “Snow White’s Enchanted Wish” puts guests in a wooden mine cart as they accompany the princess as she escapes from the Evil Queen’s paws.
“Start your fairytale journey in the cozy villa of the Seven Dwarfs, then visit dazzling mines full of glowing gems. You will soon ride in the queen̵
The trip has been enhanced with new music, LED backlighting, laser projections, an animation system and new scenes, including Snow White’s dancing and a collection of books on spells and bubbling potions of the evil queen.
“The Snow White attraction has such a rich history,” said Kim Irvine, CEO of Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney Imagineering. “We wanted to take into account the beautiful work of art that has always existed and retell the story in a special way. We believe that guests will enjoy this sweet storyline in a stunning experience.”

However, the grand finale of the “kiss of true love” between Snow White and her prince attracts attention from the San Francisco Gate.
“The new grand finale of” Snow White’s Enchanted Wish “is the moment when the prince finds Snow White asleep under the spell of the Evil Queen and gives her a ‘kiss of true love’ to free her from charm,” the paper said. “A kiss he gives her without her consent while she sleeps, which it can not be true love if only one person knows it is happening. ”
“Haven’t we already agreed that consent in early Disney movies is a major issue?” Is it wrong to teach children that kissing when it’s not clear if both parties want to get involved? ”The San Francisco Gate continues. “It’s hard to see why Disneyland 2021 would choose to add a scene with such old-fashioned ideas about what a man is allowed to do to a woman, especially given the company’s current focus on removing problematic scenes from walks like Jungle Cruise and Splash Mountain. Why not re-imagine an ending in keeping with the spirit of the film and Snow White’s place in the Disney canon, but that avoids this problem? ”

Snow White is the latest Disney theme park attraction, sparking controversy following a reaction to “negative images” of indigenous people in scenes from The Jungle Cruise and the Splash Mountain’s links to the 1946 song “Song of the South.” .

The company announced earlier this year that it would redesign the jungle cruise to replace the scenes in question, and it was praise for his decision to re-theme “Splash Mountain” after the 2009 animated film “The Princess and the Frog”, which starred a black female role.
In addition to its theme parks, streaming company Disney + added a disclaimer for “offensive content” to select episodes from The Muppets and movies, including The Aristocats, Dumbo, Peter Pan and Swiss Family Robinson.
A Disneyland spokesman did not immediately return FOX Business’s request for comment on the San Francisco Gate report.
