As the great Nute Gunray once said, this is getting out of hand.
Like more and more people are realizing the value of the old Pokemon cards, more and more people are flocking to catch opportunities, if not all, then at least once a card worth a ton of money.
Which probably explains why (via Polygon), at a recent auction, sealed box of cards from the first edition of 1999, sold for $ 408,000.
It is a lot of money, but as Inheritance Auctions pointed out in their description of the sale, the box will contain the first edition of Charizard, and one of them recently went for $ 350,000 alone. If this field contains one of them, this is a good investment! If it doesn’t, well, if you spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on Pokemon cards, you’ll survive.
I remember I wrote about the first edition of the box, sold at auction in 2018 for $ 56,000, and I thought it was crazyand that – for many reasons, only some of them Pokemon-connected – feels like 100 years ago.
Inheritance auctions have filmed bidding if watching someone spend $ 408,000 on some Pokemon cards is something you can bear to see.
