A hack that enabled rich communications services on every Android phone and carrier appeared last weekend. According to reports over the past 24 hours, the RCS trick has stopped working for some users.
It is strange that the first wave of reports consistently comes from the owners of OnePlus. The Chat Features page in Settings went from Connected to Connected or directly to the Chat Features Not Available for this device message.
All followed simple steps to activate the SMS / MMS receiver through an internal tool designed for Google developers, and today they have tried to replicate the process without result. In addition to the change in status, users can no longer have access to writing indicators with read receipts, high resolution images, Wi-Fi sending and mobile data, larger group conversations or business messages.
Adding to this interruption are periodic reports from Google Pixel Devices and Samsung Galaxy that have lost RCS. They join OnePlus 5, 6, 7 and 7T on various media worldwide. That said, others still have the ability to chat and it just might be an isolated issue.
Oddly enough, Google has released the RCS trick for so long. Even after the beta release of Messages 5.2 this week, the "Set RCS Flags" menu is still accessible by manually starting the activity. In fact, this edition is now starting to spread to the stable channel.
After all, breaking the RCS tricks should come as no surprise. There was never any indication that it was officially maintained. Google, while letting Android users bypass operators, does not appear to be viable for this affiliate.
