A 39-year-old woman was charged Tuesday with trying to kidnap the 9-month-old granddaughter of Hall of Fame quarterback Joe Montana from his home in Southern California.
Sodsay Preprint Dalzel of Los Angeles has pleaded not guilty in Los Angeles District Court to crimes of attempted kidnapping and child theft.

Montana, 64, told the deputy sheriff that the girl had slept in the playpen at his home in Malibu on Saturday when a woman he did not know came in and picked up the child.
Montana and his wife Jennifer confronted her, tried to de-escalate the situation and asked her to return the baby, authorities said.
After a brief fight, Jennifer Montana pushed the girl away and Dalzel ran away from home, authorities said. She was later arrested nearby.

Montana played 13 years of his 15-year career with the 49ers, who won four Super Bowls with him as a starting quarterback. He retired in 1994 after two seasons with the Kansas City bosses.
He and Jennifer Montana, a philanthropist and former model, have been married since 1985 and have four adult children. It is not clear which of the children is the girl’s parent.
