After Pete Alonso tied the referee's rookie mark on Friday night, the judge said the Mets' first founder would go past him the last two days of the season.
"There's no better person to share it with," said the judge after Alonso struck 52, the mark that the judge had placed exactly two years ago. "He will eventually break it. I know for sure."
And the judge is excited to hand over the title.
"There is no better person to represent not only the targets but the city of New York," said the judge after the Yankees' 1
The two spoke briefly and the judge was impressed by what he saw.
"He has something for him," the judge said. "You have seen his sorrow and determination in the home derby.
And when the judge learned that Alonso wanted to meet for dinner during the off-season, the right-hander said "that'll be cool."
Asked who would take the section, the Judge smiled and said, "I cover this one, but he has the next one."
