NAPA, California – From running routes and catching passes Thursday in Arizona to participating in a Saturday morning walk in Wine Country to a full-fledged practitioner right after Sunday?
Welcome to the world of Antonio Brown as he completes his first training camp with the Oakland Raiders while continuing his development with quarterback Derek Carr.
Asked on Saturday if he sees Brown as a full-fledged participant in practice soon, Reads coach John Gruden replied, "I think so, yes."
"He took all the reps today in our leadership. He showed great detention and we'll see what happens here this afternoon; we'll do a review today. We have a lot of guys who can't practice, so we'll take it tomorrow. "
As for Derek Carr's quarterback, Brown is doing "everything with us now" is doing well for his own development and preparation for the regular season.
"Man's response is incredible." Carr told Brown. "He goes in and there are no mental mistakes. It's not easy to make that violation. Especially when you have a day off … you come back and you have to stay with Coach Gruden all the time. You can say Antonio was studying because he came out and didn't miss a beat.
"He was part of everything we did today."
Which is far from what Brown did in two weeks, he was away from the team , not returning until last Tuesday while seeking treatment for his frozen legs, suffered abuse cryotherapy in France last month Brown also lost his complaint of wearing his old, non-certified helmet
And while the Raiders are expected to train on Sunday and Monday before breaking camp and playing a home-based preseason game in Winnipeg , Manitoba, Canada, Thursday against The Green Bay Packers, Few, if any, will start playing on the artificial turf.
Carr will continue to link wit h Brown to management and, when he returns, to practice .
"I can go through all my checks and do all the things that I will do during the season and then I have … Tyrell [Williams] and [Darren] Waller and our running backs and Antonio, they are all one of one, what do you do to whom you go? "
" It's a mental game we're going to have to play, me and Coach Gruden … but it's nice to have it and I can play it like a real game and where I would go and what I would go to did. "
