The message was recorded earlier this year as part of the Thanksgiving episode. “Danger!” tweeted the video on Thursday morning, before the scheduled broadcast.
The favorite TV presenter died on November 8, less than two years after announcing that he had been diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer.
In a posthumous message, Trebeck acknowledged the unprecedented difficulties the nation faces on this Thanksgiving.
“You know, despite what America and the rest of the world are going through right now, there are many reasons to be grateful,”
; Trebeck said in the video.
“More and more people are lending useful hands to show kindness to their neighbors,” he continued, “and that’s a good thing.”
A spokesman for the show did not immediately respond to inquiries about when the episode was recorded.
The message of the deceased host is broadcast as Americans observe a significantly different Thanksgiving from previous years, with a record number of coronavirus infections and nearly a quarter of a million people dying from the virus. Nationwide, families are urged not to gather for the holiday in hopes of stopping the spread.
“Keep the faith,” Trebeck urged. “We will go through all this and because of that we will be a better society.”
