Amal Clooney couldn’t resist cutting Meryl Streep for her previous relationship with her husband, George Clooney, this week.

The 42-year-old human rights lawyer was honored by the 71-year-old actress, who presented her with the 2020 Gwen Yifil Freedom Award during an online ceremony on Thursday.

After accepting the award, Amal joked that he and Meryl had a special relationship because they were both married to George.

“You are an inspiration as a woman, as an artist, as a defender of press freedom,” Amal told Meryl.

“I know I can never hope to win the number of awards you have won, but it seems to me that we have something in common, which is that we are both married to my husband.

“And honestly, the fact that you did it as Mr. and Mrs. Fantastic Fox just makes it a lot less uncomfortable,” she jokes.

Amal, who was born in Lebanon before settling in Britain for two years, has worked in New York, London and The Hague as a human rights lawyer and has represented senior clients, including Julian Assange and Nobel Peace Prize winner Nadia Murad. .

The family-friendly comedy is based on Roald Dahl’s book of the same name and includes numerous regular representatives of Anderson, including Bill Murray, Willem Dafoe, Owen Wilson and Jason Schwartzman.

The film was nominated for two Oscars and was a critical success, although it disappointed at the box office.

George and Amal were later engaged in April 2014, after their first meeting the previous year, when a mutual friend introduced them.

The couple had a wedding ceremony on September 25 in Venice, Italy, but were officially married only two days later at the Venice City Hall.

After being named GQ Man of the Year this month, George admitted that his life was empty before he met his future wife.
