Apple launches iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 “Release Candidate” for developers and public beta testers with “New update available” Fix

Today, Apple released “Release Candidate” versions of upcoming updates to iOS 14.2 and iPadOS 14.2 for developers and public beta testers, 10 days after the sowing of the fourth beta and a month and a half after the release of updates for iOS 14 and iPadOS 14.

iOS and iPadOS 14.2 can be downloaded by developers through the Apple Developer Center or over the air once the appropriate developer profile is installed, while public beta testers can download the update with the appropriate certificate. Remarkably, today’s update will fix the “New iOS update is now available” error that users saw with the previously available beta.

Apple in iOS and iPadOS 14.2 adds new emoji symbols 13 emoji, with options that include a smiling face with a tear, ninja, pinched fingers, anatomical heart, black cat, mammoth, polar bear, dodo, fly, pepper, tamale, bubble tea, potted plant, pinata, piston, rod, feather, hut and others, with a full list available here.

The iOS 14.2 update also brings new music recognition controls to the Control Center, which improves the integration of Apple’s Shazam app into the iOS operating system. Music recognition allows you to find music that is playing around you, and can recognize music that is playing in applications, even when you wear AirPods.

The Shazam music recognition function can be added to the Control Center via the Control Center options in the Settings application. To use the feature, open the Control Center and then tap the Shazam icon to start a recognition. While Apple devices have been able to use Shazam via Siri or the Shazam app for some time, the Control Center option makes it easier to access the music recognition tool.

The new update includes a redesigned Now Playing widget for the Control Center, which lists recently played albums that you may want to use and listen to when there is no music. There is also a redesigned interface for AirPlay, which makes it easier to play music on multiple devices with activated “AirPlay” 2 at home.

For those with low vision, Apple has added a “People Detection” feature to the Magnifier app, which uses the camera to notify iPhone users how far other people are, which can be useful for social distancing purposes.

As for the Apple Watch app on the iPhone, Apple has slightly improved the design by updating the watch with one of the new Apple Watch Solo Loop bands.

For Apple Card users, the iOS 14.2 update adds an annual cost history option so Apple Card holders can see how much they’ve spent in the current calendar year and how much they’ve earned in Daily Cash. Previously, iOS 14.2 “Apple Card” offered cost activity information in summary information for a week or a month.

With HomePod 14.2 software, the iOS 14.2 update introduces the Intercom feature, which turns HomePod, HomePod mini, and other devices into intercoms that can be used in the household.

The intercom allows family members to communicate with each other in the home by sending and receiving voice messages through HomePod speakers or via iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods and CarPlay. Intercom can be activated by saying “Hey, Siri‌, Intercom” to activate it, followed by a message. An intercom can even be used when people are away from home.

You can select specific HomePods or devices in the home to send a message to everyone in the household, or reply to an intercom message sent by someone else. On devices such as ‌iPhone‌ and ‌iPad‌, intercom messages are displayed as notifications with the option to listen to an audio message.

IOS 14.2 has new wallpaper options, with several new wallpapers available in both light and dark modes.

The update introduces optimized battery charging for AirPods to slow down battery life by reducing the time AirPods spend fully charged, and allows the HomePod to be connected to Apple TV 4K for stereo, surround sound and Dolby Atmos audio.
