Apple launches macOS Catalina 10.15.1 Update with support for new Emoji and AirPods Pro

Apple today released macOS Catalina 10.15.1, the first macOS Catalina operating system update to be released in October.

MacOS Catalina can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for free using the Update function in the System Preferences application and is available to anyone who has a compatible Mac.

macOS Catalina 10.15.1 is a fairly significant update introducing new emoji characters that were added to iOS 13.2 earlier this week, adding support for AirPods Pro starting tomorrow, and introducing Siri's privacy controls Mac, so users can opt out of sharing their Siri records with Apple.

HomeKit Secure Video support is included, as well as support for adding AirPlay 2-enabled speakers to scenes and automations in the Home app. There are also many bug fixes for photos, messages, contacts and more. Apple release notes for the update are below:

The macOS Catalina 1

0.15.1 update includes updated and additional emojis, support for AirPods Pro, HomeKit Secure Video, HomeKit enabled routers, and new Siri privacy settings, as well and bug fixes and enhancements.


– Over 70 new or updated emoji, including animals, food, activities, new accessibility emoji, gender neutral emoticons, and skin tone choices for emoji couple


– Introduces support for AirPods Pro

– HomeKit Secure Video allows you to capture, store and watch encrypted videos from your security cameras and has people, animals and vehicles available

– HomeKit enabled routers allow you to control how your HomeKit accessories communicate on the Internet or in your home

– Adds AirPlay 2 speaker support for scenes and automation


– Privacy settings to control whether or not to help improve Siri and Dictation, allowing Apple to store audio of your Siri and Dictation interactions.

– Ability to delete your Siri history and Dictation from Siri settings

This update also includes the following bug fixes and enhancements:

– Restores the ability to view file names in the All Photos in Photos view

– Restores the ability to filter by favorites, photos, videos, edits, and keywords in the Days in Photos view

– Fixes an issue where Messages will only send one notification when the Repeat Alert option is enabled

– Fixes an issue that causes contacts to start to a previously opened contact instead of the contact list

– Adds a two-finger gesture to move back to Apple News

– Resolves issues that may occur in the Music app when displaying playlists inside folders and newly added songs in the playlist

– Improves the reliability of iTunes library databases migration to music, podcast and TV applications

– Fixes an issue where downloaded titles are not visible in the Downloads folder in the TV app

macOS Catalina is a major update that eliminates iTunes in favor of new music, podcast and TV applications, nixes support for 32-bit applications, adds a new Find My application, brings a new photo interface and includes numerous privacy enhancements and other enhancements to the application.
