Atlanta rapper YFN Lucci among a dozen listed in a gang racket indictment – WSB-TV Channel 2

ATLANA – Reichan Bennett, better known as musician YFN Lucci, is among a dozen suspects charged with a 75-page charge of racketeering of 105, focused on factions in the Bloods street gang.

“This accusation is unprecedented. Period, “said Fulton County Attorney Fanny Willis Channel 2 reporter Mark Win in an exclusive interview.

“There has been a huge leap in violent crime,” Willis said. “I am committed to bringing the best and smartest minds here, many of whom you see sitting here right now, so that we can deal with this problem of this violent crime.”

Joining Willis when she met Win was key members of her staff, including recently hired Mike Carlson, one of the band’s most prominent experts, RICO expert John Floyd and lead gang prosecutor Kara Convery, as well as senior law enforcement officers.

“The first thing we had to do was admit that there was an absolute problem with the gang in this county and that we would take a strong stand against it,” Willis said.

Willis said she and her team used a YouTube music video titled “Shine On” to highlight the alleged band associations of the two artists, YFN Lucci and Bloody Jay, both of whom are named in the indictment. The indictment says the video includes lyrics promoting a criminal gang.

Convery says investigators have also used social media posts to help build their gang case.

“It’s a way to show who you are and who you are committed to and what you are willing to do to maintain that position of power,” she said.

Luci’s lawyer, Drew Findling, said his client was not guilty of all the charges.

“He’s not a gang member.” “What he is is an internationally acclaimed three-platinum musician who has performed throughout the United States and around the world,” said Findling. “His first right to change to express himself musically is no different from the famous rock song “I Shot the Sheriff”. This is not a criminal activity. “

Bloody Jay, whose real name is Justin Usher, told Win on the phone that he was not involved in a gang or committing any crime, saying, “I make music.”

The indictment alleges that Luci is an accomplice of the blood, and the charges against him include falsifying evidence of murder by concealing a crime scene and a vehicle by concealing it, attacking someone by strangling and encouraging that person’s blows and kicks to play a rival band music.

Luci is already facing murder in connection with the murder of a man in December.

Willis says charges of a crime against Luci and some others in the RICO case include the murder, for which Luci has already been released on bail.

“We believe this is part of a bigger picture,” Willis said.

Atlanta Police Captain Jason Smith says the investigation lasted more than six months and included the Attorney General’s Office, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the Atlanta Police Department and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office.

“I think it sends a significant message, a deep message, that regardless of your status, that the city of Atlanta and Fulton County in partnership will come after you if you commit crimes in our county, in our city,” said Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant.

“Of the national gang, the criminal street blood gang, there are at least four subgroups involved in this particular accusation and investigation,” said GBI Gang special agent in charge of Ken Howard.

“Some people don’t understand the depth of the gangs because of the lack of a better word, our communities and their time to go,” said Fulton County Sheriff Pat Labat.
