The Australian state of Victoria on Monday reported its biggest increase in cases of new locally acquired COVID-19 in a week, when authorities rushed to trace the source of the highly infectious variant Delta, found among the infections at the last outbreak.

Victoria, the country’s second most populous country, reported 11 new cases acquired locally on Monday, two days earlier. Monday’s data includes two cases announced on Sunday, which were registered after the average daily deadline.
