Jimmy Failla opens the show with NY Post NFL writer Ryan Dunleavy.
They preview Sunday's Giants -Jets battle for local bragging rights, and discuss the struggles of both teams, Sterling Shepard's concussions and the future of Eli Manning.
Longtime ESPN anchor Linda Cohn then joins the show to talk about her Giants fandom, her frustration with the team , why Manning was benched too soon, her favorite "This is SportsCenter" commercials and her ESPN + hockey show.
Cohn on benching Eli Manning for Daniel Jones: Cohn: I was not a fan of benching Eli Manning after two weeks. I said it when it happened. Congrats to Daniel Jones beating two crappy teams the next two weeks. What I like about coach [Pat] Shurmur, unless he changes his personality, I thought he was a little bit too smug. He was very smug when Daniel Jones won two games against awful teams. Daniel Jones has no promise yet. We have all seen moments, but [what] we have seen most is what I thought we were going to see… inexperience. I buy the rebuilding situation. There were about four games in this 2-7 season that would have been won if Eli Manning had been their quarterback. And swear by it. Daniel Jones. Look at the numbers… nobody wanted to say it in the preseason, how many fumbles he lost. Guess what's going on now? A league-high eight fumbles lost, 16 turnovers. Not yet an accident. "Facts.
Cohn on Pat Shurmur:
Cohn: There is no accountability. They would never admit they made a mistake. [Manning] remains collecting dust on the guidelines with his knit Giants cap and his five-day growth on his face. Jones takes more responsibility for his actions than the head coach does. Another problem I have with Shurmur: He has yet to say, "he thought he was me." Super Bowl-winning coach Doug Pederson of the Eagles said I have to coach better. I hear Bill Belichick say that in the rare times he loses. He says it like it is. The Giants coaching staff led by Pat Shurmur has yet to say, 'This is on me.'
Cohn on the defense's lathe defense. Let’s talk about in the trenches. The defense is not getting any better. It has had its moments. The defense has improved. Now seeing, are we shocked that some of these players are not going all out now that it is a losing season and they want to risk injury? Anyone who watches the game and has watched the game all their life like I have, you can see where the games are not being made because they are afraid to hurt themselves. Is frustrating. Come with you, Giants fans. Tough to watch. "Inexcusable.
