Best Kindle deals for Prime Day: $ 75 off Kindle Oasis, $ 50 off Kindle Paperwhite

This story is part of Amazon Prime DayThe CNET guide for everything you need to know and how to make sure you get the best deal.

If you’ve ever thought about buying a special e-reader, Prime Day 2020 is the perfect option. Amazon has deep discounts for some of its Kindle e-readers and you can get $ 50 from the Kindle Paperwhite, which makes it only $ 80- $ 5 less than the previous low price of the product for all time. We think this will be a particularly popular deal for Prime Day.

Prime Day is also a good time to consider the entry-level Kindle children̵

7;s edition. You can save $ 35 from the list price of $ 110, and also get a free case and a one-year subscription service from Amazon’s Kid Plus, worth $ 36.

In addition, Amazon will offer a $ 5 credit for “each Kindle book” with the purchase of select Kindle devices.

Like most of the other first-day sales, they began on Tuesday, October 13 at 12:01 a.m. PT and will run for up to 48 hours. If you don’t see the deal you were hoping for, don’t lose hope – our experience has shown that there are probably other deals for Prime Day Kindle.

It’s unclear whether a higher-end Kindle Oasis or a base-level Kindle (non-Kids Edition) will also sell, but we’ll keep track of their prices, as Amazon often misses unforeseen deals (in addition to a lightning-fast deal or two) on their devices in Prime Day. This is the Gold in the Amazon line and our current selection of CNET editors in the category. Here are some things we love about the Kindle Paperwhite:

  • It is 10% thinner and lighter than the previous version.
  • It has a “front” design with a back made of softer, gripping material instead of hard plastic.
  • It’s a completely waterproof Kindle, like the high-end Kindle Oasis, and has a plastic screen that Amazon says is tear-resistant and scratch-resistant.
  • It has built-in Bluetooth, so you can download Amazon Audible audiobooks and listen to them with a wireless headset.

Keep in mind that Amazon may update the Kindle Paperwhite in 2020 (released in November 2018). If and when this happens, it is not clear to what extent it will be an upgrade. For example, a USB-C charge can be added and the lighting scheme may be updated, but we would not expect dramatic improvements. Read our review of the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite (2018).

The latest iteration of Amazon’s initial e-book reader, which Amazon simply calls the Kindle, now has a self-illuminating screen and an improved design. We prefer the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, which has a higher resolution display (text and images look a bit sharper), is waterproof and has a slightly better lighting scheme. But if you don’t want to spend a lot on an e-reader, the standard Kindle is a good option, especially when it’s discounted.

Most people will be happy with the more affordable Paperwhite for reading Kindle ebooks and the basic needs of the Kindle, but if you want the best of the best with an anti-glare screen – and you don’t mind paying a premium for it – Oasis probably is when it comes to a premium e-book device. $ 175 is a good price for it.

Amazon’s best E Ink e-reader was updated in 2019, but this Kindle e-reader is essentially identical to the previous Kindle Oasis, except for one key difference: It has a new integrated color-adjustable light that gives you allows you to customize the color tone from cool to warm, depending on whether you read during the day or at night. You can also schedule automatic screen refresh at sunrise and sunset – unlike Night Shift mode on Apple devices.

The latest iteration of Amazon’s initial e-book reader, which Amazon simply calls the Kindle, now has a self-illuminating screen and an improved design. Priced at $ 90, this e-book reader costs $ 10 more than the previous Kindle 2016, but this Kindle regularly sells for only $ 60. We prefer the Amazon Kindle Paperwhite, which has a high-resolution display (text and images look small sharper), is waterproof and has a slightly better lighting scheme. But if you don’t want to spend a lot on an e-reader, the standard Kindle is a good option, especially when it’s discounted.

The children’s edition sold here includes a case – there are 4 choices, along with the year of Amazon Kids Plus (FreeTime Unlimited), which usually costs $ 3 a month and gives you access to hundreds of children’s books. Amazon Kids Plus includes the full Harry Potter series and the first book in other popular series such as Artemis Fowl.
