Best Prime Day 2020 headphone deals: Save $ 50 on AirPods Pro, great discounts on Sony, Bose and more

This story is part of Amazon Prime DayThe CNET guide for everything you need to know and how to make sure you get the best deal.

Amazon Prime Day 2020 lasts until Wednesday, October 14. Between Amazon’s big savings and similar sales from Walmart and Best buyNow is a great time to start hunting for all types of headphones, from wireless headphones to epic in-ear noise canceling headphones with comfortable ear cups.

So far, we are seeing deep discounts on Sony headphones, which we have traditionally seen around Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Sony has not only lowered the prices of all its true wireless headphones, but also of its excellent new WH-1

000XM4 noise canceling headphones. We also see Apple ‘s headphones coming back at a low price of $ 199 (even as new earphones from AirPods Studio hearing remains).

We expect to see more amazing headphone discounts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays, so if you’re in the market for a particular type of headset (say, one with Bluetooth connectivity, noise cancellation, or real wireless headphones) continue to check.

Please note that you will need to be a member of Amazon Prime to receive these exclusive offers.

The AirPods Pro briefly fell to $ 190 on Tuesday during a deal with Woot, but that sold out instantly. Now the current top of the line of true wireless noise canceling headphones is selling for $ 199 again. It’s still expensive, but it’s $ 50 of what you’ll pay in the Apple Store, and $ 20 less than their usual price on Amazon.

Sony’s latest noise canceling headphones receive a $ 50 discount on Prime Day, and Amazon is giving away a $ 25 gift card to sweeten the deal.

The new WH-1000XM4 has an improved voice call (compared to the WH-1000XM3) and also adds multipoint Bluetooth pairing, so you can connect to two devices at once – such as your phone and computer. This means that if you make a call while using the headset with your computer, the sound will switch to your phone when you answer the call.

The Bose Noise Canceling Headphones probably still have the advantage of voice calls, but the 1000XM4 headphones may be a little more comfortable and have some other noise and sound enhancements that make this model a great choice for everyone. Read a review.

When Bose released its new flagship Noise Canceling 700 headphones, it did not miss the QuietComfort 35 II from its range of headphones and it is still the best noise-canceling model. Although I think the 700 performs better overall, there are people who prefer the QuietComfort 35 II.

While the QuietComfort 35 II counts for $ 350, it usually sells for $ 300 or less. However, $ 199 is roughly the lowest price we’ve seen for it. It is also sold at Best Buy.

Amazon’s Echo Buds sound decent, are suitable for making calls – they have Bose noise reduction technology – and have Alexa hands-free to issue voice commands without pressing buttons. I thought they were a little more expensive at $ 130, but much more tempting at $ 80, especially after getting some firmware upgrades that improved their performance.

If you can’t afford Sony’s WH-1000XM4, the company’s lower-level WH-CH710N noise-canceling headphones drop to $ 88 after recently reaching $ 100. They don’t offer sound quality, build quality or noise reduction. on the Sony 1000X models, but at $ 88 they offer a good kick for your money. However, I don’t think they cost nearly $ 200, their price on the list.

Standard AirPods with a cable charger sell for $ 125 on Amazon. But for Prime Day, the price is $ 115, which makes additional savings of $ 10. Although I’d like to see them reach $ 99, that’s roughly the best price you’ll see for standard AirPods.

The Sony WH-XB900N looks similar to Sony’s WH-1000XM4. However, it is not as chic and does not provide exactly the same level of sound quality and noise-canceling performance, although it shares some of its features. But if you like the bass, there are many – after all, these are Sony Extra Bass headphones. It’s also a handy handset with decent noise canceling features. We’ve seen it drop to about $ 150 during last year’s holiday season, so $ 123 is a good price. Read our WH-XB900N review.

The Beats Powerbeats Pro list is for $ 250, but usually sells for $ 200. These headphones are $ 175 for Prime Day, which is about as low as we’ve seen. Keep in mind that only black and white models sell for $ 175.

Sony WH-1000XM4: The best noise canceling headphones get …

The list of headphones WF-1000XM3 for $ 230. They briefly dropped to $ 170 earlier this year, but at $ 178 they are still the best-sounding wireless headphones in this price range and also have active technology for noise reduction to reduce ambient noise.

The only drawback is that the WF-1000XM3 headphones are not rated as sweat-resistant or waterproof headphones. That said, I used them for light workouts with a little sweat in the gym without a problem. They use Bluetooth 5.0 with AAC support, but not aptX.

Keep in mind that we expected Sony to release the next generation WF-1000XM4, but at this point we may not see them before 2021.

Waterproof: No (no IPX certification). Read our review of the Sony WF-1000XM3.

It took a while, but now we finally have a new true wireless sports noise cancellation model from Sony: the WF-SP800N. Funny, at the end of my mostly positive review, I wrote that I would like to see more of them in the range of 160 to 175 dollars. They recently dropped to $ 127, but the current price of $ 148 is still $ 50 below the list and $ 20 below their usual street price.

This is not exactly a WF-1000XM3 with a waterproof body. Sony’s QN1e processor is missing, but it still has something to like, including very good sound, stable noise reduction and good call quality. This is definitely a significant improvement over the WF-SP700N, which came out in 2018, and its “arcs” (sports fins) lock the pimples in your ears. Just make sure you get a tight seal from one of the included earbuds, otherwise the sound and noise reduction will be blurred.

Waterproof: Yes (IP55 splash resistant). Read our review of the Sony WF-SP800N.

The WF-XB700 is in the company’s Extra Bass line and is priced at $ 130. I tried them and really liked them. Their sound quality is not measured by that of the WF-1000XM3 or WF-SP800N (it lacks some clarity), but if you like the bass, these are decent sound headphones. I thought they were a little expensive at $ 130. At a $ 52 discount or $ 78 – corresponding to their lowest level – they are a much more tempting option.

Waterproof: Yes (IPX4 splash resistant). Read our Sony WF-XB700 Extra Bass first.
