President-elect Joe Biden’s national security briefing will be attended today by a team of diplomatic, intelligence and defense experts, a transition official said.
“They will discuss readiness in the relevant agencies as the newly elected president prepares to lead on the first day,”
The briefing comes as Biden has not yet received classified intelligence briefings, as President Trump has refused to recognize the race and blocked his administration from taking any of the administrative steps normally taken in a transfer of power, including allowing the administration of the General Services to declare that a president has been elected there – a move that triggers the transition process.
Speaking to reporters in Wilmington, Delaware, on Monday, Biden pointed to the fact that newly elected Vice President Kamala Harris continues to receive intelligence briefings in his role on the Senate Intelligence Committee.
“The good news here is that the colleague is still on the intelligence committee, so she is receiving intelligence briefings. Not anymore, ”Biden said. “That’s right, but there are a number of Republicans calling for it. I hope that the president will be a little more enlightened before we get to January 20th. “
Biden’s briefing on Tuesday will not be an official national security briefing for the US government.
