President Biden and First Lady Jill Biden posed for pictures with former President Jimmy Carter and former First Lady Rosalyn Carter during their visit to Georgia last week – but the angle of the photo makes the candidates rise above the miniature Carters.
The Carter Center published a photo of the two presidents and two first ladies taken during Bidens ‘visit to Carters’ home in Plains, Ga., Last Thursday.
“We are pleased to share this wonderful photo from the visit @POTUS and @FLOTUS to see the Carters in the plains, Ga! Thank you President and Mrs. Biden! “, Wrote the center in a tweet on Monday night.
The two couples met for the first time since Biden became president, as Carters did not attend the inauguration in January due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The former president is 96 and Rosalyn Carter is 93.
All four looked without masks.
But the photo of the two presidents’ meeting caught the attention of critics because it was taken with a wide-angle lens distorting the frame.
The president looked at least twice as tall as Rosalyn Carter as he knelt beside her as she sat in a chair.
The same was true of Jill Biden and the former president.
She is shown kneeling next to his chair, holding his hand, but she rises above him.
Twitter users were confused by the size discrepancy, wondering if it had been digitally changed or taken to a small house.
“In which we learn that both Joe and Jill Biden could play center in the NBA,” wrote conservative commentator Ben Shapiro.
“I have been staring at this photo for three hours. I have to go to bed. Come back tomorrow, “Joe Caders wrote.
“Submitting why we don’t use the ultra-wide lens indoors,” wrote journalist Jared Holt.
“We voted for Biden because he is a decent man with sound policies, but also because he and Jill are giants who will crush you if you make them angry,” said Sister Celluloid.
Another suggested that it was the photographer’s fault.
“I guess the room was very small, so they had to use a wide-angle lens to get everyone in.” The choice of lens was correct, but someone had to correct the distortion in Photoshop before releasing it, “wrote the user DemSwag.
Bidens visited Carters last Thursday on Biden’s 100th day at the White House.
Media members traveling with Biden do not enter Carters’ home.
Rosalyn said goodbye to the presidential couple when they left home while her husband stayed inside.
“It was great to see President Carter,” Biden said after the meeting. “It reminded me that I was the first person to approve it outside of Georgia. And we sat and talked about the old days, and he introduced me to a friend of his, the Venerable, who wanted to meet me, and Rosalyn was also great. We just had a good time. We are old friends. “
The relationship between the president and Jimmy Carter dates back to the 1970s.
Biden began serving in the U.S. Senate in Delaware in 1973, three years before Carter’s inauguration.
