In another pin-up image, the already blonde Elish is seen posing in a beige Burberry trench coat with a suitable corset, socks and high heels. On the cover, the confident-looking 19-year-old singer wears a satin pink corset and a transparent Gucci skirt, accompanied by a lace bra and latex gloves.
The photo session led by Vogue director Gianni, is a dramatic departure from the pop star’s usual baggy clothes. The article reveals that Eilish has approached Vogue with the idea of transforming her image through the embrace of a “classic, vintage pin-up” look, inspired by model Betty Brosmer and photographers Horst P. Horst and Elmer Butters.
Ailish predicts that the transformative photos could provoke criticism. “If you are for body positivity, why would you wear a corset? Why not show your real body? she says to the magazine. “My thing is, I can do whatever I want.”
The Grammy-winning pop star added: “It’s all about making you feel good. If you want to have surgery, go for surgery. If you want to wear a dress that someone thinks you look too big, wear it. If you feel like you look good, you look good. “
The June 2021 edition of British Vogue will be available on May 7.
Ailish’s new look coincides with the recent release of her upcoming sophomore album, Happier than everwhich is set to appear on July 30 via Darkroom and Interscope Records. Last week, the singer released her new folk single “Your Power”, in which she condemned someone who abused his power and did not realize the consequences of their actions.
