Former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg leads President Donald Trump by 6 percentage points in a hypothetical 2020 game, according to a new Morning Consult / Politico poll.
Forty-three percent of likely voters would support Bloomberg if the election were held today, compared to 37% who would vote for Trump. However, twenty-one percent of those surveyed said they did not know or did not have an opinion.
The poll comes as Bloomberg plans to jump into the Democratic presidential primary. The billionaire is still not sure if he will enter the race, a source told CNBC, but is worried about what he sees in the area of democracy.
Bloomberg, however, may struggle to come forward in the primary. He is currently in sixth place, with only 4% of Democratic voters backing him. Bloomberg has the highest voter fraud rate, 25%, of every Democratic candidate among voters.
The poll was conducted among a national sample of 5 387 registered voters, including 2225 major Democratic voters.
