Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel added more playable characters after the launch, but don't expect the same from Borderlands 3. At Q&A at the end of the Borderlands Show stream, game director Paul Sage ruled out the possibility and explained his reasoning.
According to Sage, Gearbox data from previous extensions indicate that most people do not adhere to additional characters and therefore have decided to distinguish
"Probably not. No, "he replied when asked about additional characters. "You asked me earlier about the data we use. And one of the things we actually saw was that after people chose their character ̵
He went on to say that when collecting data from previous games, "they can see people playing verses on five levels [with a DLC character] and then back to their primary. "
Borderlands 2 and The Pre-Sequel added two additional characters in addition to the four starting classes, for a total of six. Borderlands 3 again has four initial characters, but introduces active skills for each branch of the skill tree, each with its own modifications. This is probably what Sage meant as diversity within existing characters. If you need to manually choose which one is best for you, see our Vault Hunter guide.
The Borderlands Show stream also details Bloody Harvest DLC, a free Halloween content piece that comes out in October. And the show also refused the Shift Code, so be sure to visit our Shift Codes Index to claim it and your other Gold Keys.
