Bucks to Acquire Jrue Holiday for Eric Bledsoe, George Hill, Three First Round Choices, Report

The Milwaukee Bucks made their big move in the off-season. They will reportedly acquire bodyguard Jury Holiday of the New Orleans Pelicans in exchange for bodyguards Eric Bledsoe and George Hill, plus three spades in the first round, according to Shams Charania. Selection swaps will also be included, according to Adrian Voynarovski of ESPN.

The 30-year-old Holiday is one of the league’s best defenders and one of the best players in the commercial market. He is one of the few guards in the league who is not a relegation from Bledsoe when it comes to perimeter defense, and his size makes him more flexible. More importantly, the Holiday is a massive upgrade at the other end of the court. For two consecutive seasons, the dominant violation in the Milwaukee regular season seemed solid and predictable against the elite defense in the playoffs. There was a need for more playmates, and Holiday provided just that, while only strengthening its original identity. Last season, he averaged 1

9.1 points, 6.7 assists and 4.8 rebounds for Pelican.

Hill was one of the league’s best reserves last season and Bucks sacrificed some depth in trading with two players on a rotation for one. This is a problem for the front office to solve as the off-season moves forward, as does the need for more shooting. Holiday is a decent but not great shooter that is suitable for the course on this Milwaukee list. Hill was an exception to that – he made an outstanding 46 percent of his 3 last season.

With so many spades, the Bucks sent a message to franchise player Giannis Antetokounmpo: They are all-in to win the championship next season. The question, however, is whether that will be enough to persuade Antetokounmpo to stay in Milwaukee. He can sign a supermax extension this season or become an unlimited free agent in the summer of 2021.

From New Orleans’ point of view, this deal complements its already vast collection of drafts. David Griffin’s front office received as much as possible from the Los Angeles Lakers in the Anthony Davis trade in the summer of 2019 and did an impressive job, maximizing the commercial value of the Holiday. We will not know exactly how long this withdrawal will be until the years when the elections are either made or moved elsewhere. If Antetokounmpo leaves the Bucks, he will obviously make them much more valuable.

Meanwhile, Bledsoe and Hill will help the Pelicans stay competitive next season, assuming neither of them has been moved to another team.
