Over the past year, Nintendo has released several Mario games to celebrate the mustache mascot̵
For Super Mario 3D stars (which collects Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine and Super Mario Galaxy in one game), you can still play the game if you own it physically or digitally. The cartridge will always work and the digital version can still be downloaded to your Switch again, even after it is removed from the eShop. Although you will no longer be able to purchase the eShop version, you can find copies of Super Mario 3D stars online and in stores – although you may end up paying more for it. Expect new and used copies to become more expensive after Nintendo stops production.
Fortunately, copies of Super Mario 3D stars are slightly reduced at the time of writing. Instead of the normal $ 60, Super Mario 3D stars retails for $ 50 at Amazon, Walmart and Best Buy. We don’t know how long this selling price will last (Nintendo games are rarely sold), so you better get a copy now before the shipments dry out. As for the digital version, it’s still the full $ 60 in the eShop – but buying it now ensures you don’t have to look for an overpriced box later.
Unfortunately, this does not apply to the free game of a competitive multiplayer game, Super Mario Bros.35. It will be removed from the eShop on March 31 and Nintendo will immediately shut down the servers. Since the game is only online, you will no longer be able to play it.
For those who have not tried it, Super Mario Bros.35 puts a competitive spin on the classic NES Super Mario Bros.where players play through the original levels, but each enemy you step on is sent to another player’s game. The last player to stand wins the match. It launched on October 1, 2020, so it could only be played for six months. If you are interested in trying out the game, be sure to download and play it before March 31st.
Nintendo also released Super Mario 3D world + Bowser rage of Switch and added the original Super Mario All-Stars to the collection of free SNES games for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers for the 35th Mario, but they will remain available after March 31.
