California authorities have discovered and destroyed $ 1 billion worth of marijuana plants

The Cairn County Sheriff's Office – assisted by the FBI and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife – is executing search warrants for 11 flights in the Arvin area, about 100 miles north of Los Angeles.

459 acres of land destroyed about 10 million marijuana plants — worth about $ 1 billion on the black market, the sheriff's office said.

"These illegal marijuana gardens were grown under the guise of legal cannabis production," the sheriff's office said. The Food and Agriculture Code and the Health and Safety Code define industrial hemp that contains less than 0.3% THC content.

Tests show that THC levels in these areas are much higher than the legal limit, the sheriff's department said. THC is a psychoactive substance within cannabis.

The investigation is ongoing, authorities said.
