California expects a nearly 90 percent drop in Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines next week

BERKELEY, California (KGO) – At a time when we need more vaccines, California is about to see a significant drop in doses from Johnson & Johnson – we’re not just talking about a few hundred or even a few thousand doses of almost 90% drop.

We will also see an 85% drop in Johnson & Johnson vaccine doses across the country. Instead of nearly 5 million doses sent by the government this week, next week the government will send only 785,500.

Johnson & Johnson said last week that one of their batches did not meet their standards. The New York Times reports that workers are mixing ingredients, destroying 15 million doses.

If you try to make appointments next week, when eligibility opens up and you have problems, that may explain why. Demand will increase while supply decreases.

The governor said receiving the vaccine for all eligible Californians could take up to a month.
