Developer Treyarch will introduce a new chapter from the Zombies mode of the franchise with Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold Warwhile maintaining the cooperative game with four players, which makes the permanent mode so popular. This time, zombie fans will use Cold War-era weapons to repel the invasion of zombies in the 1980s, but the threat of the undead is still rooted in World War II.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Zombies will include a story mode set in Die Maschine, loaded with graffiti, a board-covered bunker with a nod from Nacht der Untoten, the original Zombies map presented in Call of Duty: World at War. Players will explore Die Maschine as a member of a CIA-backed group known as Requiem, which also sparked interest from a rival Soviet group known as the Omega Group. Intrigues and swarms of angry zombies are expected to follow.
The new Zombies mode will include many of the gameplay elements that players are familiar with: Perks, Pack-a-Punch machines and mysterious boxes. This time, however, there will no longer be a limit to the number of different bonuses that players can consume, “so go ahead and open six packs,”
Cold Wartaking on the zombies will also include:
- Field upgrades – which sound similar to Modern war abilities of the same name – which will offer “offensive lovers of abilities that help to avoid or heal and revive;”
- Equipment that can be found or manufactured, such as grenade launchers, clock towers, explosive bows and helicopter gunners;
- and a chance to escape hairy situations through Exfil, which will allow you to summon a rescuer by helicopter, but will also recruit zombie spawning “up to 11,” says Treyarch, and can win squad rewards if you survive.
Treyarch says playing time in Zombies mode will also contribute to this Cold WarBattle Pass and that players can enter their weapons created by Gunsmith, optional. Even better, Zombies will play between generations on different platforms, which means the team will be easy to put together.
Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War will be released on November 13 in PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X.
