Zachary Winston, the younger brother of Michigan star Cassius Winston, died Saturday night when he was hit by a train, Public Safety Chief Albion Scott Kip confirmed on Sunday.
Kip said that Winston was hit by a train from Amtrak west to Albion, Michigan shortly after 8:30 pm Saturday. According to Kip, Winston was on the train as he approached the pedestrian walkway just past the Erie Street crossing.
Zachary Winston was one of the two Cassius brothers on the Albion basketball team. He was a sophomore at school. The youngest of the three brothers, Khi, is a freshman in Albion. All three attended Jesuit University in Detroit for high school.

Albion College President Mauri A. Ditzler released a statement on Sunday, but did not mention Winston's name.
"To our Albion College Community:
Last night, our family lost a student. And as families do in difficult times, we need to come together to grieve and hug each other. We were in close contact with the family of students and doing everything we can to support them. According to the wishes of the family, we do not currently share a name or details. Please keep your family in our heart. We plan to offer grief counseling to our community and will share details later today. "
Michigan State faces Albio in an exhibition game on October 29, as they play and Cassius Hi.
Michigan State, currently No. 1 in college basketball, is scheduled to play in Binghamton on Sunday night.
