After a long campaign by pop legend Cher, the elephant Kaavan finally has a new home in Cambodia, The Los Angeles Times reports. Kaawan was given to Pakistan by his native Sri Lanka by birth, but was held in appalling conditions and beaten by security guards – even trampling one to death, according to Times. After learning about the elephant’s situation in 2016, Cher hired a legal team to fight for Kaavan’s freedom, which a Pakistani judge granted in May.
