Chicago Red Line: The train derails near Bryn Mawr; The CTA service resumes north of Belmont



CHICAGO (WLS) – CTA’s red line service was suspended for several hours after the train derailed near Bryn Mawr station in northern Chicago on Monday night.

According to the Chicago Fire Department, a wheel on the South Purple Line train derailed shortly after 6 p.m.

Firefighters have been seen helping the 24 passengers on board get off the train safely. No injuries were reported.

The Red Line train was stopped for several hours between Howard and Belmont. The Purple Line Express service was also suspended, although local Purple Line trains continued to run between Howard and Lipa.

Shuttle buses were provided between Belmont and Howard as crews worked to restore the service.
