Clubhouse downloads dropped to 900,000 in April as competition increased

Clubhouse quickly achieved huge success earlier this year, reaching over 8 million downloads in the iOS App Store in February. However, with increasing competition, things are not going well for the audio-based social network. A new report says the app registered about 900,000 downloads in April, falling from a peak of 9.6 million downloads three months ago.

According to a study by Sensor Tower shared with Business Insider, Clubhouse had 922,000 downloads worldwide in April 2021. This represents a 66% drop from 2.7 million downloads in March – and is even more significant compared to the 9.6 million downloads that Clubhouse had as of February.

Sensor Tower data shows that the retention of the Clubhouse by users is still strong, which means that the majority of users who have downloaded it still have the application installed. However, the significant drop in the number of downloads is worrying for the company, as it means that fewer potential users are interested in its social network.

The company has tried to stay relevant by introducing a new revenue-generating feature for live chats and even a program to help content creators, but that doesn̵

7;t seem to be enough against the competition. In recent months, companies such as Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Telegram and even Spotify have introduced their own live audio platforms that do essentially the same thing that Clubhouse does.

Twitter, in particular, is doing well with its audio platform called Twitter Spaces – which has finally become widely available today for both iOS and Android users. Meanwhile, Clubhouse remains almost the only iPhone app, as the beta version for Android was announced only earlier today.

Although the company was valued at about $ 1 billion in January and is looking for new investors, the future of Clubhouse is now unclear.
