Colby Covington finally leads the UFC semi-heavyweight title match, which has long been in demand, but still holds sorrow for the way the promotion handled its way there.
Covington, the former provisional title holder, will face champion Kamaru Usman at UFC 244 Main Event on December 14 in Las Vegas. He recently told Radio Broadcast that if he defeated Usman, he would not allow UFC President Dana White to wrap a championship belt around his waist, as is customary after a title fight.
"I can tell you who doesn't wrap it around my waist and it won't be Dana White," Covington said. "If he tries to wrap it around my waist, I'll take the belt from him and punch him in the face."
When asked in a comment at Friday's UFC press conference after the ESPN 6 fight, White said essentially " we'll see about that, ”and informed Covington that this animosity was a two-way street.
"Good luck with that," White said. "He is a big-mouth idiot" (1
Unarmed: Mike Brown says Jorge Masvidal-Colby Covington can fight to happen theoretically. "
There has been a lot of confusion about White-Covington's relations since the better days when White arranged for Covington to visit the White House with President Donald Trump. The UFC stripped Covington of the time zone when Covington said he was unable to fight the date the UFC wanted, and then tried to collect Usman-Covington for UFC 243 after the duel was finally made for the UFC 244. Covington is not afraid to give his side of history.
"There's a difference between me and Dana White and that's true and lies," Covington said. "To be honest, I don't care what he says. He has a lot to say all the time and I no longer pay attention to him. I don't follow him on any social media platform so I could give (extremely) less than what he has to say. I show up, kick my ass, take names and take the biggest checks in sports, and that's it. There is no living person to stop me right now. ”
