The wholesale giant says it is halting production of Chaokoh coconut milk after PETA reported on the alleged monkey business in Thailand. We know it sounds like a joke: How many monkeys does it take to pick a coconut?
But according to PETA, there is no punchline … just monkeys taken from their families to be chained, placed in cages and forced to become “coconut pickers” until they die.
Now, for its part, Chaokoh denies allegations of PETA abuse, saying … “We do not commit the use of monkey labor in our coconut plantations” – and adds that all of its suppliers have signed an agreement not to do so.
Costco is not buying this, apparently, as it is following Walgreens, Food Lion, Giant Food and Stop & Shop to pull the company’s products.
