Costco shooting: Man who police say was killed after unprovoked attack and off-duty officer was a 'gentle giant', says cousin

The police officers have been identified by the Corona Police Department as a 32-year-old Kenneth French, of Riverside, assaulted and off duty by the Los Angeles Police Department Officer in an unprovoked attack before shooting. , who was reportedly holding a young child while shopping with his family when French attacked him, shot and killed French and also shot two members of his family, police said.

Lt. Jeff Edwards of the Corona Police told reporters shortly after the incident that police believed the shooting was a result of an argument

"From my understanding, from some people we talked to, there was apparently an argument inside," Edwards said.

But on Sunday French cousin Rick Shureih told the Los Angeles Times that French was a non-verbal and had an intellectual disability that would have prevented him from starting any argument.

Shureih also identified the family members who were shot as the victim's parents, Russell and Paola French

Shureih was not at Costco at the time of shooting and did not witness what happened. ”
