PIERRE, SD (KELO) – Three new deaths from COVID-19 were announced along with a new total number of one-day deaths in the latest update from the South Dakota Department of Health.

The death toll in South Dakota rose to 291. The three new deaths included two men and one woman with two deaths listed in the 80+ age group and one aged 70-79.

876 new cases of coronavirus were reported on Wednesday, bringing the total number of cases in the country to 30,215 compared to Tuesday (29,339). The total number of recovered cases is already 23,320 compared to Tuesday (23,007).

The active cases are already at 6,604, compared to Tuesday (6044). This is also the highest number of active cases in South Dakota since the beginning of the pandemic.

9 remained at 303 the same as on Tuesday (303). The total number of hospitalizations for South Dakota residents from COVID-19 is now 1,963, up from Tuesday (1,911).

The total number of negative people tested is now 192,106, compared to Tuesday (191,063).
