Press release from the Humboldt Joint Information Center:
The total number of Humboldt County cases is 282, after two new cases were reported today.
Due to the growing rate of cases, public health yesterday increased the effectiveness of disease control to level 3 of the county-level warning assessment tool. Although this does not change the overall level of warning, which is currently orange at three or three levels, Humboldt County Health Officer Dr Teresa Frankovic has called for an increase in related cases.
“We reported 49 cases this week alone, and that represents about 17 percent of our total cases since February,” she said. “These developments should deepen our determination to do everything possible to limit the spread of this virus.”
Dr Franković went on to say: “I am extremely grateful to the vast majority of our residents who take on this responsibility to protect each other, using all means of prevention at hand, such as facials, distancing and neither travel nor travel invitations from family members and friends. This type of choice really matters to our county. “
Today, the public health laboratory could not operate at full capacity due to a major plumbing problem that flooded part of the laboratory and caused significant damage to the offices of the director of public health and the two public health officials. The damage included the removal of above-ground bodies in one office and a partial collapse of the ceiling in another. Michelle Stevens, Dr. Teresa Frankovic and Dr. Josh Ennis are temporarily moving into the building while their offices are being renovated. Although some operations have been affected, public health officials say the lab “has not missed a beat” with regard to COVID testing.
