COVID NYC update: 5 vaccination sites in New York will open on Sunday, including two 24-hour locations

New York (WABC) – In an effort to end the coronavirus pandemic, New York is opening five new vaccination centers on Sunday and not a moment too soon.

The last percentage of positivity in the city is over 6.5%.

Efforts can help reverse the trend, with some vaccination sites even open 24 hours a day.

The two mega sites, which will open on Sunday, will be open 24 hours a day, one at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in Sunset Park and the other at the Bath Gate Industrial Park in the Bronx.

On Saturday, the city’s health commissioner toured one of three community vaccination centers at a high school in the Mott Haven section of the Bronx.

When the vaccine becomes available to the general public, they will be able to vaccinate up to 2,000 people a day.

By the end of the week, 1

2 locations in the community will be open. They are only by appointment on the city’s websites for eligible groups, which currently include health workers and residents of nursing homes and staff.

From Monday, this extends to adults over the age of 75, teachers and transit workers.

By the end of the week, the city will have a total of 160 vaccination sites open in all five districts.

Governor Andrew Cuomo believes the vaccine will be available in April, before all eligible groups who want the vaccine can get it.

Qualified people can register for the vaccine on the city’s website. From Monday, the telephone reservation system will also be put into operation.
