Cowboys sign reserve quarterback for veteran Gareth Gilbert a day after Duck Prescott’s injury, according to a report

After Duck Prescott was removed in about 24 hours from surgery to repair a severely injured right ankle, the Dallas Cowboys are in the process of rebuilding their quarterback room. On Monday night, the cowboys signed veteran quarterback Gareth Gilbert of the Browns coaching team, according to NFL Network̵

7;s Tom Pelisero. The Cowboys quarterback now consists of Gilbert, reserve backup Ben DiNucci and starter Andy Dalton.

Choosing the sixth round in the 2014 draft, 6-foot, 230-pound Gilbert made six passes in six games in his regular season. Born in Texas, Gilbert began his career in Texas, where he replaced famous starter Colt McCoy during Longhorn’s loss to Alabama at the 2009 National Championships. Gilbert, who finished his career at SMU College, was Rams’ sixth round in NFL Draft in 2014

As a rookie, Gilbert spent nearly two months on the Aries coaching team before joining the Patriots coaching team in December, where he won the Super Bowl ring after New England beat Seattle in the Super Bowl XLIX.

Gilbert skipped the league for the next few years before joining Orlando Apollos from the now defunct American Football Alliance. Prior to the suspension of league operations, Gilbert led the AAF with 2,152 yards. He also led the league with a rating of 99.1 passers-by and was also second in the league with 13 touchdowns.

Shortly after the AAF was eliminated, Gilbert signed with the Browns, where he threw three assists while dressing for five games. Gilbert was placed on reserve / COVID-19 on the roster in August before being fired from the team before the start of the regular season. Gilbert, 29, spent the last five weeks on the Browns training team before being declared by the cowboys.

The Cowboys’ attack will now be led by Dalton, an 11-year veteran who made nine of 11 passes for 111 yards during Sunday’s victory over the Giants. Despite their modest 2-3 results, the Cowboys are in first place in the NFC East, heading to Sunday’s home game against the Cardinals.
