Teary Jack Ma formally left Alibaba on Tuesday, bringing a guitar and wig to a rock star at an event for thousands of e-commerce giant employees he founded 20 years ago in a small, shared apartment in the city Hangzhou in East China.
During a four-hour celebration of an 80,000-seat stadium, Alibaba's billionaire executive chairman fulfilled his promise a year ago to deliver to CEO Daniel Zhang.
Costume artists, some danced to dubstep music and dressed in traditional Chinese dress, and the singers paid tribute to Mr. Ma's reputation for dressing and performing major events, parading the floats representing Alibaba's divisions, such as such as Tmall shopping site and Ant Financial payment service. Towards the end of the ceremony, Mr. Ma, co-founder Lucy Penn and the Chief Technology Officer by Alibaba Van Jaan, they wore rock leather jackets and star-studded wigs to perform Chinese pop songs. They were joined by co-founder Joe Cai, dressed in a white Marilyn Monroe dress and blond wig.
Mr Jang, also dressed in rock star rock, then gave a solo appearance, saying earlier that Alibaba would continue to invest in such areas as cloud computing.
Mr Ma's exit comes after Alibaba has become Asia's most valuable company, with a market capitalization of $ 460 billion. It employs over 100,000 people and has expanded to include financial services, computer computing and artificial intelligence.
The company also said Tuesday that it has adopted six new core values, one of which is the promise to "keep professional life balancing the decisions of each individual," marking a step up from Ma's latest comments, urging technology company employees to work overnight and weekends that sparked debate across the country.
Mr Ma also told attendees that he hoped to see Alibaba's shoulder more responsible for improving society amid rapid changes caused by technologies such as big data and 5G.
"It's not easy to be a strong company, but it's harder to be a good company," he said. "A strong company is determined by its commercial ability, while a good company is responsible and courteous."
