Cardinals right hand Dakota Hudson left the team’s game against the Pirates early Thursday with elbows outstretched. He will undergo an MRI on Friday, according to Derrick Gould of the St. Louis Post Dispatch.
Hudson left after throwing just two assists in another defeat for the Cardinals, who are 22-24 and fighting for a place with a wild card. Hudson is an asset to the team, proven by his 2.77 ERA over 39 assists. This is the third consecutive year in which he opposes field-independent numbers to publish much better running prevention figures, proven by the 3.20 ERA and 4.72 FIP, he recorded over 239 innings since his 2018 debut. At least the Cardinals seem to have a legitimate MLB starter in the Hudson, so the hope is that the elbow problem won’t stop him from leaving for the rest of this year or make him miss the time in 2021. The Cardinals may they need all the spin help they can get with Hudson then, Jack Flaherty and Quang Hyun Kim it seems the only members of their staff will probably start for the club then. They could also get Miles Nicholas back from tendon surgery on the right flexor, although it remains to be seen whether Adam Wainwright will continue his career in 2021.
