Dan Quinn, hired by the Dallas Cowboys, is no longer an option for the 49ers

The 49ers list for deputy defensive coordinator Robert Saleh, if he gets a job as head coach, has shrunk by one. Saleh is a popular candidate this season after an interview with at least five teams.

Former Falcons head coach Dan Quinn joins the Dallas Cowboys as their defensive coordinator after firing Mike Nolan after a disastrous 2020 campaign.

Quinn was the Seahawks’ defensive coordinator in 2013 and 2014, when they finished second in both years. They were also third in yards in ’13 and first in yards in ’14. He took over as Falcons head coach in 2015, where he helped steer Atlanta to the Super Bowl LI. 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan was his offensive coordinator for the first two years.

His experience in managing the defensive scheme that Saleh used in his first four seasons with the 49s, combined with his knowledge of Shanahan, made him a popular name among coaches who could take over at San Francisco DC.
