Alex Trebeck took on the role of Danger! host seriously, but that doesn’t mean he didn’t have a laugh.
Brad Rutter, one of the show’s biggest winners, recalled the scandalous antics of the late host during the show’s “Ultimate Tournament of Champions” in 2005. He remembered Trebeck’s finale. Danger! the show airs on friday – two months after the show’s iconic host died of pancreatic cancer.
“We were so nervous, we were just all pale as a ghost,” Ruther, now a star on the ABC show The persecutionsaid in an interview with Philadelphia Radio Station 98.1 WOGL.
To “reduce the tension”, Rutter and his opponents Ken Jennings and Jerome Vered felt, one of them suggested that they should participate in the race without pants.
It was just a silly joke that they went on without realizing, “our microphones are live and Alex heard us,” Rutter said.
So when the show’s spokesman, Johnny Gilbert, made his famous performance about Trebeck, urging him to take a picture, the host laughed at the competitors and “went out without panties,” Rutter recalled.
The always bolder Trebek wore a suit, which created a fun visual picture. After a laugh, the host returned behind the scenes to finish dressing before continuing.
Rutter talks about how the contestants in the show, which Trebeck hosted for nearly 37 years, “don’t have the right to talk much,” because it’s a race. However, “I was lucky enough to be on the show so often,” earning nearly $ 5 million and a place in the Jeopardy Hall of Fame, “That I met Alex a little.”
He said that having this personal connection with Trebeck, he should have seen his sense of humor “even more personally than you would see on the show.”
Trebeck lost his battle with cancer in November at the age of 80. He worked until the end, recording his last shows on October 29. He died 10 days later.
Initially, the show planned to continue airing episodes of Trebeck, with the latter airing on December 25th. However, they changed the plan instead of airing some special offers – “Alex’s Favorite Episodes Around the World” – and his latest episode airs on Friday.
No successor has been announced, but some guest hosts have been arranged. Jennings, who holds the record for most wins on the show, will step in – despite some bad press lately. Its episodes are scheduled to air on January 11.
It was announced this week that Katie Kurik will also be hosting for a week.
