Kojima Productions finally released the first game after becoming independent of KONAMI. Death Stranding officially launched two days ago on the PlayStation 4, with a PC version scheduled for next summer.

In an interview with the Italian publication Tgcom24, published on the day of the issue, Hideo Kojima had the opportunity to discuss the early reception of critics. Although the average score was quite high, there were some low scores coming mainly from US publications. Kojima attributes this to his preference for first-person shooting games, while Death Stranding, he says, "flies higher".

I must say that the game has received rave reviews, especially in Europe and Japan. Here in the United States, however, we have received stronger criticism. It may be a difficult game to understand for a certain type of critic and audience. Americans are big fans of first person shooters and Death Stranding is not one, it flies higher.

I always try to create new things, and disputes and discussions are good, but it must be said that the Italians or the French have different artistic sensitivity that allows them to appreciate this very original product not only in video games, but also in cinema.

In fact, Kojima described it as a "game of threads," while almost every shooter and action game is generally "stick games." Death Stranding, of course, is a battle, but it is far from the core activity of the game, as with the vast majority of other editions.

Regarding the direction Kojima wants to direct his studio, he mentioned the discrepancy of the line between independent and triple A-productions, mainly because it allowed him to leave his own imprint.

It's a bit of a challenge between independents and blockbusters, I want to be in the middle and accept the positives of both worlds. , It happens that some very original games are sold only in Japan and left with a low budget. But when they try to offer themselves abroad to become international products, they lose their soul a little when the imprint of the creative director slowly fades. The larger the project becomes, the more the creative face disappears, as is the case with Western games.
